What’s the course about?

This course will provide a better understanding of what community empowerment is or can be. It will include approaches and methods
you can use to think about and support community empowerment. Here's more about course certification and our competition!!!!

Course information
This Supporting Community Empowerment MOOC will run from 12th November until 17th December 2012.
In the sidebar you'll find a detailed week by week guide with all the necessary links to course material and live events.
The weekly topics are;


Where? Online, wherever you can access the internet including Google Hangout.

How? There will be guest speakers who will stimulate your thinking. You will learn about different approaches and methods from community learning and development practitioners.

Participants will be able to experience online learning and see whether they would like to carry out more continuing professional development online.

There will be tasks to complete in-between the online sessions in order to generate discussion when participants are together online.


Course technology


The course will be delivered online with a Google group, a wiki home page and presentations delivered via Google Hangout onto a Youtube channel.

The course aims to be exciting, participatory and innovative.This course gives you the opportunity to join and develop a network of practitioners
around community empowerment.


Why is this course being offered?


To increase the continuing professional development opportunities for community learning and development workers in the North Alliance.
This course is not intended to replace other face-to-face events but rather offers an opportunity for a blended learning approach, combining
online learning with other face-to-face opportunities.To make professional learning opportunities affordable and accessible, in particular for
practitioners in rural and remote locations.


Course outcomes


Understanding of community empowerment, including different definitions of community empowerment.

Understanding of the politics and principles that underpin the facilitation of community empowerment.

Explore different approaches to community empowerment and establish their relevance to participants’ own professional practice.

Develop skills to support community empowerment processes.

Discover ways to identify strategies to support community empowerment.

Greater awareness of online resources which are relevant and useful for community learning and development (CLD) practitioners.

Identify resources and links to sources of support and funding for CLD community empowerment processes.


When?


There is an optional induction on Monday 12th November 2012 from 2-3pm (GMT). The course begins on Monday 19th November 2-3pm and
continues on Monday 3rd December 2-3pm and Monday 10th December 2-3pm. Each online session is planned to last for one hour and the
tasks to undertake between sessions should take no longer than an hour.

Who?


This course is intended for community learning and development (CLD) practitioners who work within the seven North Alliance areas. Participants
may be full time, part time or sessional staff and also volunteers. The North Alliance is a network of seven CLD Partnerships from Shetland, Orkney,
Highlands, Western Isles, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City. However, as this course is a MOOC (massive open online course) it is open to
anyone who would like to participate.

Certificate of Completion


Should you require evidence of having done the course we will provide a Certificate of Completion to participants who have completed
all the weekly tasks. To register you're interest for this just contact us here Certificate of Completion
